My first line of code!

Hej på dig!

I just had a very exciting experience. I enjoy learning new things, and for a while now I’ve wanted to start learning something completely new to me and possibly completely incomprehensible to my law-oriented brain. However, I didn’t let that tiny glitch discourage me from trying this cool new thing that is…

*drumroll*

Programming!

Yep. You read that right. I, a Master of Laws candidate, have taken up Programming. How cool is that? (hint: very)

Some time ago, I saw an ad about two workshops on programming for students at Lund University, so I decided to sign up. I have to admit that a tiny storm was brewing inside me with all these little voices saying that it is probably too difficult for someone completely outside of tech to understand that and to actually start programming, that it could be a waste of valuable essay-writing time, and so on. Piece of advice: if you hear that kind of voice… Kill that.

See that grid there? I made that grid! *so excited*

The workshop was organised by students, for students. The organisers are a group of kind, helpful and veeeery patient young people who obviously care about making learning programming more popular and accessible to people like me, people who have never been in touch with something like that.

I was pleased to see that the class was consisted of men AND women, and that the teachers themselves are a gender-balanced group. Kudos to the organising team for that!

Even my little drawing is surprised I made it that far

Well, obviously, I will need to practice a lot in order to really make use of these new skills, but I think it’s so important to constantly keep working on skills, knowledge and to try to expand your mindset as much as possible. I don’t think anyone can go wrong with that.
