Swedish Energy Saving Culture

I have to confess, in Canada we leave the room and there’s no looking back.

In Sweden, there is looking back – to check if all lights are turned off.

This blew my mind when it first happened to me. Eric and I were walking out of the Formula Student working bay one day. All of a sudden Eric stops, looks around and walks back to turn off an overhead light across the room. “Are you kidding me? It’s fluorescent light, barely consuming any energy…” said my inside voice.

In fact this kind of habit is common, especially upon leaving the toilet. Then you have to fumble around in the darkness looking for that light switch while holding your bladder.

Every day is earth day here! Good for you Sweden!
