Swim and Helping People
I just have two of my favorite thing done in a same time same place today. Swimming and charity! There is this sports provider company Medley, Swim Sweden and WaterAid are doing collaboration and campaign called Simma För Livet. It translated as “Swim for Life”. Everyone is invited to swim for free in all of the Medley’s swimming pool throughout Sweden. Every meter swim, 10 cents will be donated to WaterAid to provide better sanitation and clean water for those who lacks of clean water and safe sanitation. This campaign happened only one day, but they are having this once a year. They also have some target to accomplish. This is for total swim distance as far as entire coast of Sweden, which is 2580 kilometers.
When I know this event from a friend, I know that I will not miss this one. Three of us went to Sollentuna swimming hall to participate in this event today. There are quite many people already inside the pool when we arrived. We actually did not have target and just want to do our best. By the end of the swim, Kamal and Suci swim 1100m long, while I did 1250m.
When we register our swimming distance to the staff, we can also see the total distance swam in real time. It was around 2pm when we leave and the goal is 75% reached. I’m pretty sure that by the end of the day, when the sports hall closed at 9pm, the goal will be reached.
It feels pretty good after a good sport and at the same time being able to contribute to charity movement.
Shall we all join the next Swim for Life?
